Never miss a bus in Dublin again! If there’s ONE app you want to download, it has to be this one, trust me…
What is it for?
Next Bus Dublin is the only app you’ll ever need to navigate through Dublin like a local at any time of the day (or night). Whether you’re bang in the middle of the centre or exploring the outskirts instead, this app has got you covered. Using combined real live travel times and updates from both “Dublin Bus” and “Go-Ahead Ireland”, the two main transport service providers, you’ll likely never miss another bus again. Unless you get too carried away chatting with the friendly locals that is.
How does it work?
Once you’ve downloaded the app you can get stuck in right from the word Go. There is no need to even set up an account. With only 2 main areas to work with, one being “Search” and the other being “News”, it is one of the easiest travel apps I’ve come across to date and yet one of the most useful too.
In the search section you can either look up a specific route you have in mind, ie how to get from your host family to the city centre or you can use it to browse suggested routes, listed in numerical order.
In the News section you will find plenty of additional information you can greatly benefit from. It is a live feed from the app providers’ twitter accounts as well as other provider’s retweets. You will not only find extended working hours on specific routes over the bank holidays as well as cancelled or diverted routes. You will also find suggested sights and events including the exact route to take to get there, free giveaways like night bus tickets or entries to special events.
And there’s more. On top of the basic search and news features, you can even set customised alerts where you decide how far ahead of the next bus arrival you want to be notified. Say you want to enjoy a quick cup of coffee whilst waiting for the next bus and the cafe you chose is a 7min walk away from the stop. Simply set your alert to say 10 or 15mins in advance and you should have plenty of time to pay for your coffee and make your way back to the bus stop.
If you’re a gadget lover, simply connect the app to your Smartwatch device via iOs or Android and receive all the above information directly on your watch.
You can preview entire routes or choose to only look at the ones important to you and filter out unnecessary information cluttering your organised overview.
Honestly the list of features is endless. This app is well deserving of the title “App of the month” and will give you the ultimate ease of travel across Dublin and its outskirts.
How much does it cost? It’s free!!!!
Is the app available on both Android and iOS? Yes
Our star rating: 5 out of 5 (Quite frankly I’d give it a 6 out of 5 if I could)
