Living and working in a new city is an experience like no other. The best way to handle it, according to Oguzhan Oezcelikman, a German student who interned at ADC College earlier this summer, is to keep an open mind. The 17-year-old was with us for two weeks and wrote this thoughtful letter about his stay.

My name is Oguzhan and I am a German student with Turkish roots. I am finishing my A levels soon, including my apprenticeship as a bilingual secretary. I love all kinds of sports, but most of the time I play football.

After finishing my apprenticeship, I am going to a police academy to do an apprenticeship as police officer.

I did my work experience with ADC College in Harrow in north west London. It was important for me to work in an office where people had different cultural backgrounds. As a police officer, you must treat people equally while solving problems, it could happen you get confronted with a culture different from your own.

It was great to see how openminded the people of London are

The thing I liked the most during my work placement was the atmosphere in the office. The people of ADC College are very warmhearted and openminded, although I noticed this in other places as well. It was great to see how openminded the people of London are.

I am very fascinated about the rail connections in London. I am from a little town in Germany where there is one train every hour and here in London, the trains arrive every five minutes or so. To be honest, I had problems understanding how to find the right train at first, but after one week I got it. I learnt a lot about independence and solving problems on my own.

I think it was a very good experience to see the difference between a little German town and a metropolis like London. It was great to meet so many new people and cultures. And everyone who plans to do an apprenticeship in London, I advice you to be very openminded and do lots of sightseeing!
