Manuel Binder is a student from Austria, who recently came to London for a few weeks with our Internship Programme. The 18-year-old is currently in the fourth grade at HTL Freistadt, a technical engineering school, where he is studying Business and Logistics Management as well as volunteering, currently designing a height-adjustable table for a wheelchair-bound student. Based on his interest in technology and accounting, he was placed in Energy Solutions, a not-for-profit organisation promoting energy awareness in schools and homes. This is Manuel's impression of London.

I'm really happy that I had the chance to work in a big city like London. It was totally new for me, because I live in a village in the countryside with a population of only 50 people.

There were so many great moments being in London. The people, the city, the sights. Every moment was a highlight. In addition, I enjoyed meeting new people and experiencing new cultures.

At Energy Solutions, my task for the first few days was to create new templates for business cards, presentations and letters. The following days, I checked a number of properties to see if they had a gas connection or not. If they did, they were able to take part in a central heating project. I also accompanied a colleague on home visits, helping clients to save energy and money. This was really interesting, because it opened my eyes to the way people in London live.

All in all, the work placement was a little different to what I'm used to. Energy Solutions is a small organisation, compared to the ones I've worked for in Austria. Also, the working day starts at nine or ten in London, which seems really late to me!

The trip has inspired me to work for a company that has international connections. I also learned that meeting people from other countries is really interesting. It has helped me to think about my future and plan ahead. To new students visiting ADC College, I'd like to say: be open-minded and enjoy this wonderful experience!
