Ramona Kiedaisch is a German student who stayed with us for three weeks during the summer, studying English at ADC and interning at a travel agency. This is her poetic account of her stay.
London is big! London is an adventure and worth seeing. London is amazing. And so was my work placement.
For three weeks, I did work experience in an English company. To prepare, my classmates and I had English lessons during the first week at the college, which is located near the Harrow & Wealdstone station. Our teachers Giulia and Caroline were the best. Even though we were talking all the time, they calmly went through the lessons. We covered topics like phone calls, pronunciation, communication and small talk and it was helpful to learn about English culture and how to handle different situations at work.
I did my work placement at Ariana Business Centre in South Harrow. It’s a small company with five employees and a very nice CEO. Everybody was friendly and helpful. Sometimes there’s less work and it’s important to be prepared for that and adapt to it. But seeing how the team works is interesting and fun in itself. For example, customer service is very different from back home.
Three weeks go more quickly than you think! Enjoy it! It’s definitely a good way to practice your English and learn something new.
